South Dakota
Bobby’s House

She shook her head as she stormed into the kitchen, Dean following hot on her heels. He reached forward and pulled on her arm. As she turned in his direction she yanked it back. They stood in the middle of Bobby’s kitchen glaring at each other.

With his brows furrowed Dean gave Jo palms up gesture.

“What the hell is wrong with you?”

A look of disbelief crossed her face.

“What’s wrong with me? Please…tell me you’re joking.”

He rolled his eyes.

“Does it look like I’m jokin sweetheart?”

Jo walked toward him and poked him in the chest several times, moving him back into the wall as she spoke.

“You,” *poke* “Dean,” *poke* “Winchester,” *poke* “have,” *poke* “some,” *poke* “case! Were you not just in the other room with me?”

Dean swatted her hand away when it went to poke him again. He glared at her as impatiens settled in his voice.

“What the hell are you goin on about Jo?”

Jo let out a frustrated sigh.

“I’m good enough to be in your bed, but I’m not good enough for anything else?”

Dean’s face scrunched up in confusion.

“What…”

He didn’t get to finish his sentence because Jo continued. She gestured to the other room where Sam and Bobby could probably hear their whole conversation.

“What I can’t even touch you now Dean? This is getting ridiculous. I’m getting sick and tired of the way you always pull away from me. Get over whatever issues you have. Bobby and Sam know we’ve been sleeping together for months.”

Dean’s eyes widened slightly and he winced before craning his neck and looking down the hallway to see if anyone was making their way toward the kitchen.

“Jesus…keep your voice down. Sammy knows and I guess it’s possible Bobby knows but your mother doesn’t and I’d like to keep it that way. Unless you’re itchin’ for Ellen to castrate me…”

Horror crossed his face.

“You’re not…”

She rolled her eyes and motioned for him to shut up.

“I’m angry, but no, I’d like it if you kept all your parts where they are.”

He nodded and shifted his stance.

“So…why are you mad again?”

She let out a low growl and Dean smirked. He enjoyed riling her up. She was sexy when she was mad.

“I sat next to you Dean…all I did was sit next to you and brush a hand over you knee…you shot up out of your seat like you were on fire and then proceeded to talk about the ‘hot redhead’ from the bar earlier tonight.”

Jo‘s body deflated slightly as she backed away from him and leaned against the counter with her arms crossed over her chest. She swallowed hard and then looked up and met his eyes.

“I think it’s time we stopped this.”

Dean’s head jerked in Jo’s direction.

“What?”

She shrugged.

“We were having a little fun. Sneaking around was hot and it was enjoyable while it lasted, but I’m over it. Time to move on.”

Dean was flabbergasted. Did Jo just sort of break-up with him? Could he even really call it that since technically they weren’t a ‘couple’? Shit, he fucked up and he wasn’t even sure how he did it.

“Jo…I thought…you know we decided this was the best way to handle things between us. Not make a big deal in front of everyone…go with things one day at a time…we agreed. Until we get a handle on everything that got loose from Hell…we were gonna just take this…thing easy.”

Jo let out a humorless chuckle as she motioned at him with her hand.

“You can’t even say relationship Dean. You need to say this ‘thing’ with us. I don’t know how I ever thought this could be more than just good sex. Whatever, it doesn’t really matter. I’m done.”

Jo pushed away from the counter and walked right past him back into the living room where Bobby and Ellen were laughing at something Sam was showing them. When she came into the room Ellen looked up and her grin widened.

She opened her mouth to tell Jo what Sam was showing them when Dean burst into the room in a blind rage. His voiced snapped the smiles off everyone’s faces.

“Just good sex?”

Jo spun around and gave him an ‘are you crazy’ look. There was a warning her tone when she spoke.

“Dean…”

“No, Don’t Dean me…listen sweetheart first off I never said it was just about the sex…that’s all you right there…secondly I know there’s no way the sex is just good…sex with me is never just good…I can’t believe you said that…was it just good the other night when I had you screaming…”
“DEAN!”

He stopped his rant at Jo’s raised voice and his frown deepened.

“You are such a cocky bastard.”

“Yeah, well you’re a bitch.”

“Dick.”

“Nag.”

Dean growled and clenched his fists.

“Why do you always do this?”

“Me? Why is it impossible for you to be in the same vicinity of me when other people are around?”

“Why does everything I do have to be public? Why can’t my private life stay private?”

“Why does this,”

Jo motioned between them,

“Have to stay quiet around the people we care about the most?”

Dean grunted.

“Why do we always have to complicate shit with emotions? Isn’t it enough that I care…that I’m around?”

Jo shook her head.

“Why can’t you ever take a step forward without taking two steps back? Do I mean so little to you that we can’t be close in more than a physical way? Why can’t you talk to me like you do with Sam? I’m not askin’ for any mushy bullshit…you know me and that’s not me…but jeez toss me a freakin’' bone here…”

“You’re the one who wants to end this. I’m not the one who came whipping out of nowhere saying I’m done…I’ve let you call the shots since we started this…isn’t that enough? What more do you want from me Jo?”

The other three occupants of the room were looking between the pair as they stood five feet away from each other screaming like nobody’s business. Sam could see the vein bulging on Dean’s head. His brother was frustrated and tired.

Jo looked like any minute she was either gonna cry or slap Dean in the face. Sam wasn’t sure which…Jo grunted and ran a hand through her hair as she screamed at him.

“Damn it Dean! I’m tired of this shit…it’s been 8 months…if you love me, then love me…if not…just let me go…”

The anger died down and left her body. Dean swallowed hard and watched Jo as she looked down and kicked at ground. He let out a heavy sigh and walked toward her slowly. They stood in front of each other for a few seconds before Dean nudged her and she looked up at him.

Dean gave her half a smirk.

“I shouldn’t have been talking about the redhead at the bar…even if she was hot….”

Jo glared at him slightly, but she also knew that was as close to an apology as she was gonna get. He didn’t want to fight. She’d just brought up the love word…a word she wasn’t exactly fond of herself, and he didn’t run screaming out the door.

Maybe things were changing. He didn’t want this to end and honestly neither did she. Jo shrugged.

“I know you’re uncomfortable with us being all close in front of people…I probably shouldn’t have instigated, but in my defense…it was just a hand graze…jeez I touched you like I touch Sam.”

Dean lifted his head slightly to glance at Sam before looking back at Jo with a raised eyebrow.

“You touch my brother?”

Jo made a face and squirmed slightly.

“Well when you say it like that it sounds all dirty. I don’t touch touch him…”

Dean mumbled and Jo smirked.

“Better not be…”

Her eyes sparkled with mirth.

“No worries…I only have eyes for one Winchester.”

Dean grunted and she punched him lightly in the shoulder. He shook his head, but smiled as he cupped her face and leaned in to kiss her. Before their lips met someone cleared their throat loudly. Jo frowned and they broke apart and turned around to find three sets of eyes on them.

Ellen raised an eyebrow at Dean.

“You’re sleeping with my daughter?”

Dean opened and closed his mouth, looked at Jo then back at Ellen. He gulped and shook his head.

“No?”

“Is that a question or an answer?”

Dean gave her a pained look.

“I don’t know?”

Ellen stood up and Dean automatically took a step behind Jo.

“Bobby hand me that shotgun.”

Dean’s eyes widened as his head jerked in Bobby's direction. He was shaking his head frantically.
“Don’t do it Bobby…you’ve known me since I was a kid…remember...you like me…”

Bobby chuckled and raised an eyebrow.

“You dug your own grave son.”

Dean made a face as Ellen walked towards the gun when Bobby didn’t hand it over. Jo sighed.

“Mom, stop being over dramatic.”

“Overdramatic? This isn’t over dramatic.”

She lifted the gun and pointed it towards Dean.

“This is overdramatic.”

She cocked the gun and Jo swallowed hard. She leaned her head back slightly as she spoke in a low voice.

“Dean…”

“Yeah?”

“…run…”

“On it…”

He gave Ellen one last look before taking off through the kitchen and out the back door. Sam Jo and Bobby watched at Ellen chased him outside into Bobby’s junk yard. They could hear the screaming and Sam was cracking up. Jo shook her head and frowned at them.

“Real nice Sam…yuck it up. You better go out there and help your brother before my mother shoots him.”

The smile fell off Sam’s face as he looked at Jo.

“You don’t…you don’t think she’d actually do that…do you?”

Jo opened her mouth and they heard a shot fired followed by Dean’s “Are you mad woman? Stop shooting at me. Damn it someone make her stop!”

Sam got up and shot out of the room to go help his brother. Jo glanced at Bobby who shook his head.

“You kids are gonna make us old and gray…”

“Probably true…”

Bobby motioned to the back door where the shouts from Sam, Dean and Ellen were coming from. He raised an eyebrow at Jo.

“It worth all this hassle?”

Jo turned to the back door and watched as her mother put the gun down with a frown on her face. She was talking to Dean and Jo watched his face pale as Sam smiled before she turned back to Bobby with a grin.

“Absolutely.”

He nodded.

“Good for you kid…good for you…”
