Dean glanced around anxiously at the partially lit motel room; it wasn’t going to get much better than this. The door jerked open startling Dean.

Sam made his way over the threshold with a bucket of ice and a bottle of sparkling grape juice. He glanced at his brother’s paler than usual face, eyebrows raised. “Everything all set?”

Dean swallowed hard and nodded, fingering the jewelry in his pocket. They made a stop at their dad’s storage facility a few weeks back so he could pick it up. His eyes met Sam’s, nervous energy thrumming through his body. “You sure you’re okay with this Sammy?”

Sam could see the fear on Dean’s face and he sighed. His brother had always been terrified of letting people get close and as confident as Dean was, he always second guessed himself when it came to Jo. Sam smiled.
“I’m more than okay with it Dean. Just relax.”

He nodded and motioned to the door. “Alrighty then time for you to get gone and make yourself scarce for a few hours. Hey…thanks for helping me get this shit together Sammy.”

Sam rolled his eyes grin on his face as he saluted Dean, grabbed the keys to the impala, and took off. Dean moved over to the portable stereo, turned up the music slightly, and leaned against the cloth covered table to wait for Jo.

Jo trudged back to the motel food in hand. She was pissed. Dean had been in a weird mood for the past few weeks and then today he was a full on pod person. She was starting to wonder if he’d changed his mind about their relationship and was just looking for a way out.

For Christ’s sake, it was Valentine’s Day, not that she put much stock into the commercialized holiday, but a “Happy Valentine’s Day, Jo” would have sufficed. She knew in their line of work things were never normal, but she was pregnant and hormonal and would it kill him to make more of an effort?

Jo got to the door and steeled her expression before unlocking it and pushing it open. She walked into the room, shut the door, looked up, and came to a halt. The messy motel room she’d left earlier that day had been transformed into something beautiful.

A few candles and a Nude Girls sign lit up the room, there was a sheet tossed over the small table, a bucket of ice with sparkling grape juice sitting in the middle, and REO Speedwagon wafting softly through the room. Jo turned teary eyed toward Dean, voice barely a whisper as she spoke. “What’s all this?”

He rubbed the back of his neck as he let out an embarrassed chuckle at the semi-amazement in her eyes. He shrugged. “Thought we could use a little R&R. you get food?”

She motioned to the bag in her hand and walked to the table. He helped her unpack the food, doling out a good amount on each plate before sitting down and digging in. It was quiet for fifteen minutes before Dean cleared his throat and glanced at Jo. “So…how you feelin? Kid’s not messing with you too much is he?”

“No, I’m fine and you realize that the baby could be a girl right?”

Dean rolled his eyes, but Jo could see amusement on his face. “Point. So, I just wanted you to know that this thing between us it’s good. I mean I like it…”

His voice trailed off, he frowned, and she raised an eyebrow at his inability to form words. Dean shook his head and let out a deep chuckle as he grinned at Jo. Confusion settled on her face as he spoke. “I’m so fuckin bad at this shit. Here’s the deal. You and me, we’re two of a kind and I don’t know about you but I’m in it for the long haul.”

He reached into his pocket, pulled out the tiny piece of jewelry, and held it out so she could see it. The cocky smirk that Jo loved was back on his face.

“It was my mom’s. Believe it or not it was one of the only thing my Dad was able to recover after everything. They were happy. I want us to have that. I don’t know where we’ll be five days from now or five years from now. I don’t got much to offer, and I know I’m a pain in your ass, but what d’ya say you marry me anyway?”

Jo’s eyes glistened with unshed tears as she took a deep breath to control the emotions that were bubbling to the surface. She didn’t want to sound like some kind of whiny girl. She gave him a one armed shrug. “Sure, I guess spending the rest of my life with you wouldn't be too bad.”

He didn’t say anything as he slipped the ring onto her finger, but he didn’t have to. The emotion in his eyes as he leaned in to kiss her said it all. They broke apart Dean’s forehead resting against hers, a smirk emerging on his face again. “Happy Valentine’s Day Jo.”

She grinned. “Happy Valentine’s Day, Deano.”
