My eyes are on you they're on you
And you see that I can't stop shaking

She hadn’t looked at him all night just went about her business completely ignoring his existence. Dean guessed he deserved it, but still she could have at least given him a beer instead of making the new waitress wait on him.

Jo moved around the bar, but she could feel his eyes on her, his leg shaking as he sat there waiting for her to come over. She knew he was getting frustrated, but she was tired of being like every other girl who Dean Winchester slept with.

She was tired of being an afterthought or just some woman in a town on his journey across the country. She knew she was being slightly ridiculous, he’d never actually treated her that and he came to Nebraska as often as his schedule allowed.

But the fight they had before he left last time was still fresh in her mind and she was still angry. He and Sam had been getting ready to leave for a hunt and she subtly asked if she could tag along.

Dean had just chuckled and said the last time they were on a hunt together was enough and besides they were going to Miami and he couldn’t very well bring her with him it would distract from their investigating technique.

She was still snorting at his response. The only investigating technique she would disrupt was the search for female company. She knew they didn’t have any commitments to each other, but she hadn’t realized he’d still been sleeping with bar sluts around the country.

No, I won't step back but I'll look down to hide from your eyes
'cause what I feel is so sweet and I'm scared that even my own breath

So ever since he got back she’d been avoiding him. She wasn’t about to back down and cave just because he spent the last day or so moping around the bar waiting for her to acknowledge him. Okay maybe if she was honest with herself the decision to ignore him was more about her and her feelings than anything else.

She wanted to hide from his eyes because what she felt for Dean it was so sweet, so pure that she was scared to death to let him in. Scared that if she admitted how she felt he’d take off and disappear into the night and that was the last thing she wanted.

She was just going to have to get used to not having Dean Winchester in her life romantically…once he realized there was nothing here for him he’d take off and move on and eventually she’d do the same.

He sighed as the petite red head swayed over to him grin on her face. He held back a groan. She’d been flirting with him all night and obviously didn’t know how to take a hint. She leaned an arm against the bar next to him.

“Hey there darlin’ need another beer?”

He gave her a tight smile.

“Thanks, but I’m good.”

She shifted closer to his body as Ellen walked out from the kitchen. She raised an eyebrow in their direction a slight smirk on her face as she watched her newest waitress throw herself at the eldest Winchester. She had no clue what she was attempting to get herself into.

“Well if you don’t want another be maybe I can get you something else…anything else…”

Oh could burst it if it were a bubble
And I'd better dream if I have to struggle

Dean grunted as her body was practically glued to his side. He moved in his seat and faced her, taking his hands and gently moving her away from him. Ellen could see the irritation on his face, but he was clearly trying to rein it in.

“Listen sweetheart trust me I understood what you were saying the first three times you came over here. I appreciate it honestly I do, but I’m not interested.”

She placed a hand on his chest and Ellen pursed her lips. Though it was amusing to see Dean attempting to fend off the attention of a woman his face said he wouldn’t be able to take much more before the yelling started.

“Come on sugar…I haven’t met a man yet who hasn’t been interested.”

Her hand slid down his chest and he stopped it with one hand firmly before it reached his belt.

“Well then this must be an eye opening day for you because I am not interested. I’m waiting for someone’s shift to end and it’s not you.”

She snatched her hand away from him and glared. She waved him off throwing a 'whatever' over her shoulder as she moved across the room quickly. Dean wasn’t interest in some chick. He wanted Jo. He’d known from the beginning that he was gonna do something to mess this all up.

It’s why he didn’t want to start it from the beginning because he cared about Jo. A couple weeks back he’d said what he said to keep her off the hunt because he didn’t think he could focus on the job and worry about her. He hadn’t realized she get so angry.

He’d been living in this perfect bubble for months, going on hunts with Sam spending free time with Jo at the Roadhouse. They’d even all got together for dinner at Bobby’s for Sam’s birthday. It was like a real family…a dream come true.

So I put my arms around you around you
And I hope that I will do no wrong

Well until he ruined it. He made a face before taking another swig of his beer. Ellen placed another one in front of him. He looked up finally noticing her for the first time. Dean gave her a tired smile, which she returned.

“Hey honey, didn’t know you were coming back so soon.”

“Finished the job quicker than we figured...thought came back for a visit.”

“Whatever you did just apologize; I’m sure she’ll get over it.”

Dean raised an eyebrow and Ellen smirked before motioning to Jo with her head. Her daughter liked to talk a big game, but she knew Jo was hurting on the inside. She patted his arm lightly before moving back into the kitchen.

He turned back in her direction and as she passed him for the twentieth time that night he pushed back his stool and stood striding over to her and grabbing her arm. His sudden presence startled her and she let out a yelp almost dropping the bucket she was carrying.

His hand came up steadying it and she looked at him with an incredulous look irritation on her face as she jerked the bin back.

“What are you doing?”

He swallowed hard opened his mouth and closed it. She stood there waiting and when he said nothing she rolled her eyes, turned on her heel, and started walking towards the kitchen. He swore and called out to her.

“I’m sorry!”

She froze in her tracks, but didn’t turn to face him. He let out a sigh and took a few steps toward her.

“Come on turn around and look at me…you know you wanna.”

She turned placing the bucket on the bar, glare on her face as she crossed her arms over her chest. Dean grinned. He knew that would get her to turn around.

“I messed up. It’s gonna happen Jo…I don’t do shit like this. When I said you’d get in the way…that was more me wanting you to stay here so I wouldn’t have to worry about the job and you. I was being an asshat okay? But you’ve known me for how long now? You know I’m an ass…personally I think you find it kinda sexy…just my opinion though.”

Her lips twitched as she watched him, standing in the middle of the bar, patrons watching them as he spoke. She would not give him the satisfaction of smiling even though she knew he could see the slight amusement on her face from his words.

“You’re an idiot.”

He nodded.

“And you’re a pain in the ass, but you don’t see me point that out all the time.”

There were several chuckles as Jo took a few steps forward as Dean took two back. She raised an eyebrow.

“Scared?”

“More like cautious. If you’re going to throw something at me in a bar full of people I’d rather be closer to the people since I could probably duck behind one of them before whatever it is hits me.”

“Dean…”

He let out a deep breath and swallowed hard dropping the humor.

“Honest…I’m sorry Jo, but you gotta know I didn’t mean it right? If I was chasing tail in every town I was in why would I keep coming back here?”

“Because you’ll never find any tail better than mine.”

Dean gave her a thoughtful look and nodded.

“It’s true I probably won’t, not that I’m looking. Jesus I have enough to handle with you, you think I want another female driving me nuts?”

“You’re skating on very thin ice.”

“Well then throw me a god damned rope cause it’s cold out here.”

He watched her hands fall to her side and he took a couple steps toward her.

“Jo?”

She rolled her eyes again and sighed.

“Well are you going to stand there all night? Come say hello before I change my mind.”

My eyes are on you they're on you
And I hope that you won't hurt me

He grinned and in less than three steps his arms were wrapping around her, hand tilting her chin up as he captured her lips with his attempting to poor everything he felt in one kiss. When they broke apart people had gone back to their own conversations as he nipped at her neck lightly, voice soft.

“I am sorry.”

“Mmm.”

“I’ll make it up to you tonight.”

“You better or your ass is out the door.”

He chuckled as he untied her apron, tossed it on the bar and wrapped an arm around her waist as he led her to the back of the roadhouse. He knew there would be other fights he just hoped he didn’t do things wrong this time.

He cared about Jo more than he was ready to admit at the moment and hopefully things would turn out better for him then it had for his dad and Sammy.

Jo could feel his eyes on her body again and she tightened her grip on his hand as they made their way to her room. She was giving him a second chance and she hoped that he wouldn’t hurt her, but there were no guarantees in life.

They just had to take it one day at a time, but she had a good feeling about them, Dean Winchester and Jo Harvelle against the world…well hell look out world.
