No One Chooses This Life (2/5)

Chapter 2
Back on the Road Again…
(11-weeks)

Highway 41

Molly was outside the car yelling. She walked around to the passenger side and started banging on Jo’s window. It took Jo a second to snap out of it before she rolled down her window. Molly’s voice is frantic when she spoke.

“You’ve gotta help me. Please! Please!”

“Calm down. Tell us what happened.”

Molly swallowed hard before answering Jo’s question.

“I swerved and we crashed, and when I came to…the car was wrecked, my husband was missing. I went looking for him, but that’s when the man from the road…he started chasing me.”

Jo glanced between Dean and Sam before Dean cleared his throat and spoke.

“Did he look like he lost a fight with a lawnmower?”

The surprise on Molly’s face said it all.

“How did you know that?”

Dean shrugged.

“Lucky guess.”

Sam leaned up and spoke to her from the back seat.

“Ma’am, what’s your name?”

“Molly. Molly McNamara.”

Dean looked at Sam and before he could open his mouth Jo spoke in a soft voice.

“Molly, I think maybe you should come with us. We’ll take you back into town…”

She shook her head.

“I can’t. I have to find David; he might’ve gone back to the car.”

Sam cut in as he opened the back door for Molly.

“Well, we should get you somewhere safe first, and then Dean and I will come back here, we’ll look for your husband…”

Molly frowned. All she wanted to do was find David and make sure he was okay.

“No, I’m not leaving here without him. Would you just take me back to my car, please?”

Jo raised an eyebrow and glanced at Sam and then Dean. Dean grunted and shrugged. So Jo nodded and motioned towards Sam’s open door.

“Of course. Come on.”

Molly got in and they made their way back towards where she said her accident was. A couple minutes later Molly was on the edge of her seat,

“It’s right over there.”

Dean pulled the Impala to the side of the road and parked. They got out and made their way down the side of the road and into the woods. Molly led them down towards the tree she crashed into, but nothing was there. She looked around in confusion and then turned towards Dean, Sam, and Jo.

“I don’t understand. I’m sure this is where it was. We hit that tree right there. This doesn’t make any sense.”

As Molly looked around for some kind of explanation Sam spoke softly to Dean and Jo.

“Guys, we’ve gotta get out of here. Greeley could show up at any second.”

Dean nodded, he knew Sammy was right, but he wasn’t exactly sure how they were going to get her to leave. Jo looked between Sam and Dean and waved a hand in front of them. They looked at her and she spoke.

“What are you gonna tell her? “

Dean shrugged as Sam spoke.

“The truth.”

Dean frowned.

“She’s gonna take off running in the other direction.”

Molly walked over to them. She looked shaken up. She pointed towards the tree and spoke in a wavering voice.

“I know it sounds crazy, but I crashed into that tree. I don’t know who could’ve taken it. It was totaled. Please, you have to believe me.”

When Dean and Jo didn’t say anything Sam sighed.

“Molly, listen, we do believe you, all right? But that’s why we wanna get you out of here.”

“No, what about David? Something must’ve happened. I have to get to the cops.”

Jo nudged Dean and nodded before looking at Molly and speaking.

“The cops, you know what, that’s a great idea. In fact, we’ll take you down to the station ourselves, okay? So, just come with us. It’s the best way we can help you and your husband.”

Molly nodded and they headed back towards the Impala. Once they were all in the car Dean started it up and they headed in the direction of town. The car was quiet and Dean wasn’t all that comfortable with having a ghost in his car. Even if she didn’t know she was a ghost.

Sam glanced at Molly sitting next to him, cleared his throat, and broke the silence.

“Molly…we’re gonna figure out what happened to your husband. I promise…”

Sam opened his mouth to say something when the radio suddenly turned on. Dean raised an eyebrow at Jo.

“Did you…?”

She shook her head.

“No.”

“Great. I was afraid you’d say that.”

Molly’s voice broke through Dean’s irritated grunt.

“This song…”

“What?”

“It was playing when we crashed.

Dean exchanged a look with Jo and Sam. Dean opened his mouth, but before he could say anything Molly spoke in a slightly frightened voice.

“What is that?”

Dean clenched his jaw as he looked at Jonah Greely.

“Hold on.”

Jo does as he says and so does Sam. Dean pushed his foot down hard on the gas and the Impala jumped forward. Molly yelled from the backseat.

“What are you doing?!”

Dean didn’t slow down. He drove the car right through Greely and as soon as the car went through his body he disappeared. A few more feet and the Impala started to slow before coming to a halt. Dean frowned.

“Damn it!”

“What…what the hell just happened?”

All three hunters looked at Molly and sighed. It was going to be a long night.
