Chapter 10
San Francisco, California
The Impala
(13 Weeks)
A loud crunching sound filled the Impala as Dean chomped down on another chip. Sam sat quietly in the back of the car and Jo watched him with a frown on her face. She turned her head and glanced at Dean. He tossed another chip into his mouth and she rolled her eyes.
Sometimes she wasn’t sure what went on in that head of his. Last night after Dean called Sam he made his way to the hospital looking a little worse for the ware. Apparently Dean didn’t kill Madison…the blood on his shirt last night was hers.
It turned out Madison had no clue she was turning into a werewolf and since Sammy was sweet on her, Dean took a chance and killed the werewolf that made her instead hoping to cure her. Score one for Jo, cause it was Glen. She knew he was creepy.
So now they were sitting in the Impala staking out Madison’s apartment just to make sure she didn’t change tonight. Jo sighed as she glanced at Sam again and then nudge Dean lightly. He looked at her and raised an eyebrow.
She motioned to Sam and he gave her a ‘what do you walk me to do’ expression. Jo gave him a disapproving look and mouth ‘talk to him.’ Dean cleared his throat and raised his eyes to the rearview mirror. Sam was staring out the window when Dean spoke.
“Last night was actually sort of sad, Glen had no clue what was going on...Hey, why do you think he turned Madison instead of just killing her in the first place?”
Jo’s eyes widened and Dean frowned at her. Sam sighed and glanced at Dean.
“I don’t know. I mean, he kind of seemed to have a thing for her.”
“Maybe his primal instinct did, too. Maybe he was looking for a little hot breeding action.”
Jo slapped him.
“Dean!”
Sam shook his head and glared slightly at his brother. There was irritation in his voice.
“Yeah, something like that.”
Dean was watching Sam’s face and Jo shook her head.
“Don’t Dean…”
He ignored her and prodded Sam.
“So?”
“So what?”
“Speaking of Madison…”
Sam gave Dean an incredulous look.
“Are you kidding me Dean? Whatever…”
He shrugged.
“Don’t ‘whatever’ me, man, you liked her. Maybe, uh…”
Sam cut him off and there was anger in his voice when he spoke.
“Dean, she thought I was a stark-raving lunatic.”
Dean swallowed hard at the look of pain on Sam’s face.
“You saved her life. I seriously would have ganked her Sammy…she’s lucky you fought for her.”
Sam shrugged and looked away from them.
“Yeah, but she doesn’t know that.”
Dean opened his mouth, but Jo shoved a chip in it before speaking.
“Maybe she’ll come around…realize you were just trying to keep her safe. I’m sure once all this shit settled she’ll get that. I bet it’s just hard havin’ ghosts, werewolves and all that bein’ fake one day and real the next. It’ll work itself out.”
Sam gave Jo a small smile and nodded. He appreciated her saying that. Especially since Madison almost killed her. The smile left his face and he leaned up in his seat slightly. His voice was low when he spoke.
“I’m sorry about the other night…about what Madison did…she honestly didn’t know what she was doin’ Jo…”
Jo nodded.
“Everybody’s got a little piece a evil in ‘em. We’re fine…now and as long as Madison isn’t a werewolf anymore…she’s not a danger either.”
Sam squeezed Jo’s shoulder lightly before sitting back against his seat. Dean rolled his eyes and opened his mouth to say something when there was a knock on the window. All three heads turned to Jo’s window. Madison stood outside with a tight smile on her face.
Jo rolled down the window and we all watched Madison as she opened and closed her mouth a few times before speaking.
“You know, for a stake-out, your car’s a bit conspicuous. What are you still doing here?”
Jo looked at Dean and he sighed.
“Honestly? We’re pretty sure you’re not gonna turn tonight, but we’ve gotta be a hundred percent, so…you know, we’re lurking.”
Sam leaned forward and his eyes met Madison’s. His voice was soft. Dean watched as Sam gave Madison his patent puppy dog eyes and he smiled slightly.
“I know this sounds crazy.”
Madison nodded and let out a strained laugh.
“Sure does. Well, if we’re gonna wait it out…we might as well do it together.”
Sam, Dean and Jo looked at Madison, than each other before Sam opened his door. Jo and Dean followed behind them up to Madison’s apartment. There weren’t too many stairs, but Jo was still bruised and sore so Dean helped her.
Madison helped Dean get Jo comfortable on the couch before walking over to where Sam was standing by the window. She placed a hand on his shoulder to get his attention. He turned and she swallowed hard as she saw the long scratches on his face.
“You were telling the truth, weren’t you? About everything. What you did…it was to help me.”
Sam nodded.
“Yeah.”
Tears built up in her eyes as she realized she had taken a life…and not just one.
“I did all of those horrible things…when I turned.”
Sam moved in and stroked her arms lightly.
“You didn’t know.”
She nodded and pulled herself together, but she could still feel the guilt weighing her down.
“So, when will we know for sure? Moonrise?”
Sam shook his head.
“No, I don’t think so. You turned middle of the night last night. I think we’ve gotta hang in until sun-up.”
Madison bit her lip and nodded. Dean watched the tension in the room, glanced at Jo and then back at Sam and Madison. He grinned.
“Well, it looks like we’ve got ourselves a few hours to kill. Poker, anyone?”
******************
A few hours later Sam and Madison were immersed in a conversation talking and laughing on the couch. Dean and Jo had moved to the kitchen so she could grab some food. As Jo bit into the sandwich she closed her eyes and groaned.
“Oh thwis is gwood…”
Dean shook his head and smirked.
“I’m glad you’re enjoyin’ it.”
His eyes turned back to Sam and Madison and Jo could see the worry in them. She touched Dean’s hand and his eyes moved back to her.
“What’s wrong?”
He shrugged.
“I just hope this works. He really likes her…I haven’t seen Sammy look at a girl like that since Jessica…and that was years ago. He’s my little brother…I want him to be happy…and I know it’s hard for him with us…I just…I hope it works.”
She nodded, stood up, kissed his forehead. She relaxed his body and she smiled.
“I’ll be back.”
“Where you goin’?”
“Bathroom.”
She spoke over her shoulder and made her way to the bathroom. She came back a little while later and beat Dean at three games of poker. Sam and Madison were still in their own world so Dean and Jo decided to make the most they could of the down time.
A few after that Dean woke Jo up telling her it wouldn’t be too much longer. As the sun rose the four of them stood in front of the window. Madison turned to them with the beginnings of a smile on her face.
“Does…does this mean it worked?”
The relief in Sam’s voice was apparent.
“Yeah, I think so.”
Madison moved forward and enveloped Sam in a huge hug. He wrapped his arms around her and stroked her hair lightly. Her voice was muffled against his chest.
“Oh, God, thank you. Thank you so much.”
When they pulled apart she glanced over at Dean and Jo and gave them a small smile.
“Thank you guys too. Dean…Jo…I’m so sorry about…what happened. Sam told me…you’re okay? I didn’t…everything okay?”
Jo smiled and nodded.
“I’m doin’ okay. No big…”
Dean clenched his jaw, but didn’t say anything. There was an awkward silence filling the room and Dean cleared his throat.
“So, we are just gonna head back to the hotel and…watch some Pay-Per-View or something…”
He pulls Jo lightly with him and grinned at Madison and Sam.
“You two kids have fun.”
Jo shook her head and sent them an apologetic look as Dean pumped his fist in the air on the way out. They could hear Jo in the hallway telling him what a jack ass he was as they walked back down towards the Impala.
Sam rubbed the back of his neck as Madison chuckled and look away from the door.
“That was smooth.”
Sam made a face.
“He means well, but…”
She cut him off.
“You mean he thinks you’re gonna get laid.”
Same flushed.
“Look, I…”
She cut him off again.
“It’s okay.”
Sam shook his head and a serious expression crossed his face.
“No. I know I scare the crap out of you, all right? I mean, I tied you to a chair.”
She chuckled and motioned to his face.
“That’s right up there with me scratching up your face.”
Sam swallowed hard as he looked at her. Even as he spoke he was hoping everything he was saying was a lie. There was something about Madison that appealed to him. Something he hadn’t felt since Jessica.
“There’s just no way we could go back, you know? Before it happened…”
His voice trailed off and she nodded.
“You’re right. There’s just no way.”
Sam shook his head and after a minute Madison moved forward quickly capturing Sam’s lips with hers. He immediately responded, turned them around, and pushed her against the wall. Madison let out an ‘oomph’, but didn’t stop kissing him.
Sam groaned as her tongue dueled with his for dominance. It had been so long since he had someone in his arms. He wanted Madison more than he’d wanted anyone since Jessica. He broke away from her and slid his hands down to the hem of her shirt.
She lifted her arms and he had it off of her in seconds. She moaned as his mouth latched on to her neck and sucked hard.
“Mmm Sam…”
Madison could feel his hands everywhere at once. They were leaving a trail of fire across her skin. She felt his hand brush against the underside of her breast and she moaned louder. She hooked her arms around his neck and her voice came out in a whisper.
“Bedroom…”
Sam nodded and lifted her up while she wrapped her legs around his waist. He carried her into the bedroom and Madison started unbuttoning his shirt before they even made it to the bed. He tossed her on it and fell with her.
His hands made their way down to her pants as he hastily unbuttoned them. Everything happened in a rush of hands and mouths. Clothes flew everywhere as Sam and Madison tumbled around on her bed releasing all their pent up energy from the last couple of days.
And several hours later, when the room was quiet and still, Sam held Madison and slept better than he had since the night Jessica was killed…
