“No Sammy.” Dean slammed the car door as he walked toward the motel room pushing the door open and tossing his bag on the bed closest to the door. When this thing started between Sam and Jo he knew this was going to happen.

He knew at some point Sam would want more than the occasional visit to Nebraska, he just hadn’t thought it would be this soon. Sam sighed pushing his door open and following Dean into the motel room. He leaned against the open door frown on his face, watching his brother unpack. “Dean you know you can come stay at the Roadhouse right? Ellen has the extra room. We don’t need to waste the money and get a room every time we visit.”

Dean snorted. “Fist off Sammy, it ain't my money I’m wasting and you mean I don’t need to keep getting a room since you never actually stay in it, it kinda cancels out the we.”

Sam could see the tension in Dean’s movements and he knew his brother was mad, but this wasn’t something they could just ignore and it wasn’t something that Sam was just going to let him brush under the rug. This was important to him. “Dean…we need to talk about this.”

He turned and glared at Sam. Of course he wanted to talk about this. He couldn’t just take no for what it was…no. They’d been doing this for months, going back and forth from the Roadhouse as if they didn’t have enough to worry about with Sam’s psychic visions and the yellow eyed demon. It was starting to grate on his nerves. “There’s nothing to talk about Sammy. She’s not coming on the road with us end of story.”

Sam’s jaw clenched as he scowled at Dean. He wasn’t sure what the hell was wrong with him, or what he had against Jo, but he was tired of his attitude. He didn’t want to choose between Jo and his brother, because with either choice he’d lose someone he cared about.

“You know what Dean; this time no just isn’t good enough. Jo’s important to me and I know all the trips back here are not only sidetracking us from what we’re supposed to be doing, but they’re frustrating for all three of us. I you just let her come with us…”

Dean whirled around cutting off Sam’s words, voice harsh. “Damn it Sam! No. I’m not taking her on the road with us. She isn’t a part of our fight and I don’t need her blood on our hands if something goes wrong. She’s inexperienced and it just adds to the things that can be used against us.”

Sam pushed himself away from the frame of the door, pointed at Dean, face going slightly red as he yelled at his brother. “I love her!”

Dean froze the anger draining from his face. His eyes met Sam’s and he could see the frustration and pain in them. He swallowed hard and pursed his lips together. This is what he’d been afraid of; that Sam would get attached and the focus on what they were supposed to be doing would shift.

This isn’t how Sam had planned on telling Dean, but he was being unreasonable. He finally found a woman he loved, who he didn’t have to hide from, who knew his secrets and understood them. It wasn’t something he was willing to give up.

Dean’s hoarse voice broke the silence. “What about your visions…the yellow eyed demon? That something you wanna drag Jo into? What happened to Mom and Jessica wasn't enough?”

He winced at the anguish that passed over Sam’s face and his heart clenched. “That was a low blow Dean. Jo’s not Mom or Jessica…she’s a hunter like us. She can take care of herself. I don’t want to argue about this anymore can’t you just…meet me halfway or something?”

Dean could see the pleading on his younger brother’s face and he sighed, running a hand over his face. He wasn’t gonna win this fight and knowing Sam if he refused it’s possible he’d stay behind. “Tell her we’re leaving in two days. If she’s not ready she doesn't come. Got it?”

Sam grinned and nodded. “I’ll let her know. Thanks Dean this means a lot to me.”

Dean moved his lips together and nodded as he watched his brother grab the keys to the Impala and head off to the Roadhouse. Things were changing and Dean only new one thing for sure, things were about to get very interesting.
