Dean let out a deep breath as he walked Bobby to his car.

“Thanks for coming out here and helping us Bobby. I appreciate it.”

“No problem son, you know if you three need anything I’m only a phone call away.”

Dean gave Bobby a smile and nodded as he pulled open the car door. Bobby hesitated before getting in and turned to Dean.

“I know why you got Jo on the road with you and Sammy…and I respect that…but maybe…it’s not the right place for her to be right now Dean. She could have been hurt a lot worse than she actually was tonight.”

Dean’s jaw clenched and he nodded.

“I know…I’m working on a more permanent situation…it’s just…gonna take some time. One day at a time is all I can handle right now.”

“I know…well you behave yourself.”

They hugged, Bobby got in the car, and Dean watched him wave as he pulled the car out of the motel lot. Dean sighed and ran a hand through his hair before walking towards the ice machine to get more ice for Jo. The trickster was as good as dead.

They were able to take his game and throw it back at him, but not without a few bumps and bruises. Sam had a few deep gashes, Dean had some choice bruises and Jo was practically tossed across the auditorium, over the seats and into the wall.

Sam and Dean spent the last two hours in the hospital parking lot while Bobby took Jo to get checked out by a doctor. It was two of the worst hours in Dean’s life. Not being able to be there and know if everything was okay. That’s kinda what happens when you’re wanted by the police though, thought Dean.

The doctor said everything looked good, but Jo should take it easy for a few days and no more activities that were too strenuous. Dean shook the ice in the bucket and opened the door to the hotel room. He spotted Sam leaning behind Jo adding another pillow to her already growing pile.

She spotted Dean and rolled her eyes. There was humor in her voice when she spoke.

“Could you please tell Sam to stop mother hen’ing me…I already told you guys I’m fine. Doctor gave me a clear bill of health remember?”

Dean shut the door behind him and raised an eyebrow at Sam. Sam made a face and shrugged.

“What dude? I’m just makin’ sure she’s comfortable. Did you get more ice?”

“Sure did Nurse Sammy…”

Dean smirked, handed the bucket of ice to Sam who glared at him, went to the kitchenette sink, and started putting together a small ice pack. Dean shrugged out of his jacket and plopped down on the bed next to Jo. His eyes were on the TV when he spoke, but she could hear the concern in his voice.

“You good?”

“Right as rain…what’s going on in that head of yours?”

Dean shrugged.

“Just thinkin’…”

“That’s never good…”

He turned a glare on her and she grinned.

“I don’t know…I’m just rethinking this whole on the road thing…maybe you coming with us wasn’t such a good idea…”

His voice trailed off at the hurt look on Jo’s face. He blinked and it was gone, replaced by a look he couldn’t read. Her jaw was tense and she turned her face so she was looking at the commercial on TV and not him.

“That was quicker than I expected…”

He frowned.

“What are you talkin about?”

“The whole Jo, being on the road with me and Sam isn’t working speech. I kinda thought it would take at least a month…maybe two, but two and a half weeks? Really? I must be cramping your style more than I thought.”

Dean straightened himself up and his frown deepened. His voice was slightly louder than he intended it to be.

“Seriously, that’s what you think of me?”

Sam made his way over to the bed and noticed the tension. Jo looked up at him and he glanced between them.

“Uhh…here’s the ice. I’m just gonna…go out and grab some dinner for us. I’ll be back.”

Jo nodded and Dean didn’t say anything, just kept his eyes on Jo waiting for an answer. When the door shut behind Sam, Jo shifted and went to get off the bed. Dean grabbed her arm lightly.

“Let go.”

“The doctor said you needed to rest. That’s why we’re staying here tonight remember?”

She rolled her eyes, but settled back on the bed. The room was quiet for a few minutes before Jo broke the silence.

“I think that you ain’t crazy about change…and having me here…well that’s change. I told you from the beginning Dean this wasn’t planned…I gave you an out…I can do this on my own. Just say the word…”

Her voice trailed off and Dean could see her trying to be strong. He could see the glimmer of tears in her eyes and he sighed. This isn’t what I want…I don’t wanna fight with Jo…I just want her to be safe, thought Dean.

“Jo, look at me…come on…”

She turned her head towards him and waited. His face softened and he gave her a small smile.

“I didn’t say you have to leave…I said I was thinking about if this was a good idea. And if we decided it wasn’t, it wouldn’t be because you’re crampin’ my style. There aren’t a lot of things I worry about…but you and Sammy…you’re all I got…”

His voice trailed off and she sighed. He leaned back against the head board and watched her face as he continued talking to her.

“You’ve been getting hurt a lot lately and I just feel like keeping you here…it’s selfish…I’m not thinking about whether or not it’s good for you and the baby. I’m just thinkin about how I feel better knowin’ you’re okay…Damn…I sound like a freakin Sap…thank god Sammy ain’t here to hear me spewing this shit.”

Jo chuckled and Dean grinned at her.

“You know, you’re right…you are gettin’ kinda sappy on me. I might have to exchange you for a tougher model.”

“Mmm yuk it up…but at some point we’re gonna need to have this discussion for real.”

Jo rolled her eyes and shifted her body so she was straddling Dean. He grinned and placed his hands on her hips.

“Fine, but not now.”

Jo leaned in and captured Dean’s lips with hers. He cupped her face with one hand and pulled her closer. Dean deepened the kiss and a few minutes later they broke apart so they could catch their breath. He leaned in and brushed a few kisses against her neck as he spoke.

“We good?”

Jo moaned low in her throat and nodded as she pulled his mouth back to her lips.

“Better than…”

Dean sat up slightly, wrapping his arms around her back and pulling her to him. She laughed lightly as she pulled away from his wondering hands. Jo grabbed the hem of her shirt, lifted it off, and tossed it on the floor. Dean licked his lips and leaned back on the bed moving his hands back down to her hips.

She reached up and right as she was unhooking her bra the door to the hotel room opened and Sam walked in.

“Alright guys I got burgers, fries, and oh shit…”

Sam’s voice trailed off and Jo’s head whipped around. Dean moved to cover Jo and the two of them tumbled off the bed. There was a loud bang and an ‘Omph’. Dean grunted and Sam turned around so he wasn’t facing them.

Dean swore.

“Damn it Sammy…make a little noise next time.”

“I’m so sorry guys…I didn’t mean…”

His voice trailed off and Dean rolled his eyes at Jo. She smirked, felt around for her shirt, and pulled it on. Dean’s voice traveled through the room.

“Yeah yeah Sammy…next time knock would you…you okay?”

“I’m fine I just…”

“Not you Sam…I’m talkin to Jo…”

There was amusement in her voice when she spoke.

“I’m fine.”

She stood up and reached out a hand for Dean. He took it and stood.

“All clear.”

Sam turned around with a sheepish look on his face and brought the food to the table. He rubbed the back of his neck as Dean and Jo sat at the table. Dean sent Sam another glare before rummaging in the bags for his food. Dean changed the channel on the TV to some old movie and took a large bite out of his burger.

Sam smiled as he watched Jo and Dean argue about music. It was normal and comforting. Two things we don’t get to experience very often, thought Sam. Jo dug in the bag for another burger, but there weren’t any more. She looked over at Dean and saw he had the last one still in the wrapper sitting in front of him.

Jo reached out and Dean jerked the burger closer to him.

“I know you aren’t trying to steal my food.”

“I’m hungry. You had two burgers already.”

Dean nodded.

“Yeah and this next one is gonna bring the trio home. Make sure I sleep good tonight, besides you already had two.”

She snorted.

“So what? Give it to me Dean.”

He winked at her and grinned.

“Maybe later sweet cheeks.”

She slapped him lightly on the arm and Sam rolled his eyes.

“Just give her the burger Dean.”

“No man…it’s my food.”

He glared between them and Jo leaned back in her chair and rubbed her still flat stomach.

“I’ll fight you for that burger Winchester…”

Sam shook his head.

“You two are ridiculous…and can I say disgusting with your eating habits. At least Jo has a reason to be such a pig, no offense…she’s eating for two. What’s your excuse?”

Dean stopped chewing, tilted his head to the side, and gave Sam a thoughtful look before shrugging and going back to chewing. Jo gave Dean a playful glare and spoke with what she meant to be an irritated tone.

“That’s real nice…so your hunger is more important than your kids hunger?”

Dean rolled his eyes, gave Jo and Sam a look of disgust, and tossed Jo the burger. She caught it with a smile on her face. He spoke with his mouth full.

“Fweakin dwama quweens…”

Sam watched as Jo ate her burger happily and Dean grumbled. Things are definitely better between us since we first went on the road together. I’m slowly earning Jo’s trust back, which is making things less tense between me and Dean.

Those two will probably kill each other somewhere along the way, but that’s just the type of relationship they have and I wouldn’t change a thing about it. They’re perfect for each other, thought Sam as he sighed and smiled…I’m glad Jo’s here with us…if nothing else it at least ensures things are never boring...
