Dean could hear the music from inside as he pulled the impala into a spot outside the Roadhouse. They’d finally made their way back after two months. It was the longest he and Jo had gone without seeing each other since this thing between them started. He wasn’t sure what to call it.

He didn’t ask what she did when he was gone and she didn’t ask what he did while he was gone, but a part of him couldn’t help but be curious. They’d agreed in the beginning to let things play out and see where it took them. That was a year ago and still neither of them had broached the topic of their relationship…

Dean shut off the car and turned toward Sam, who was smirking at him.

“What?”

Sam shrugged.

“Nothing…you just always get this stupid grin whenever we come here.”

Dean frowned.

“No I don’t.”

“You do.”

Dean rolled his eyes.

“Sammy it’s a bar of course I’m happy to be here. You know how much I like bars; they’ve got three of my favorite things, booze, pool, and women.”

“Mmm one woman in particular if you ask me.”

He glared at his brother.

“I didn’t ask you.”

Dean grunted as he opened the car door.

“Help me with the bags.”

Sam raised an eyebrow.

“We staying a few days?”

Dean leaned down and glanced at Sam, brows furrowed.

“Yeah, I figured a couple days rest couldn’t hurt before the next job.”

Sam nodded, got out of the car, and moved around back to help Dean. He knew his brother had been anxious to get back to see Jo even though he hadn’t said it. Sam knew Dean cared about her and he was pretty sure Jo cared about him too, but they were both too stubborn to admit they had anything more between them than good sex…

Jo pushed a stray piece of hair back as she moved over to one of the tables. She grinned and placed the beer down in front of Tommy, while giving his father and Rufus a smile.

“There ya go, can I getcha anythin else?”

He smiled up at her.

“How about you take a break Jo, come have a drink with us.”

She rolled her eyes. Tommy was Eddie’s son, a hunter her mom had been friends with for years. He was a sweet guy, good looking too. He’d been attempting to get her to go out with him since he got to town three days ago.

“You know I’m workin Tommy. Mom’ll have my ass.”

“Aww come on. Just tell Ellen you’re gonna be hanging out with me. Please?”

Jo sighed and grinned as she shook her head. She poked him lightly in the chest and he caught her arm and brought her hand to his lips. She swallowed hard when soft lips made contact with her skin. It had been two months since she’d seen Dean and for all she knew he wasn’t coming back.

It’s not like they defined this thing between them, but still it felt slightly weird having someone else’s lips touch her skin. Sometimes she wondered if Dean felt the same way or if he was out screwing bar sluts across the country. She pulled her hand back gently.

“You’re a pain in the ass…I’ll be right back.”

She turned on her heel and he watched as she walked behind the bar and started talking to Ellen. His father raised an eyebrow.

“Be careful boy…don’t you go messing with the Harvelle women. Besides I hear she’s spoken for.”

Tommy made a face as he glanced at his father and their friend Rufus.

“I haven’t seen anyone here. Plus she didn’t mention being taken.”

Rufus snorted.

“Everyone in this here bar knows better than to go after Jo.”

Tommy raised an eyebrow, an air of arrogance surrounding him.

“Why’s that?”

“Cause she’s with Dean Winchester.”

Tommy seemed startled by the name.

“Winchester? Jo’s with one of the Winchester brothers?”

They nodded and Tommy shook his head.

“I doubt it, besides I don’t see any Winchester’s here. Do you?”

He shrugged as Jo made her way back, tugging off her apron. Tommy stood, reached out, pushing the same strand of hair that got loose earlier behind her ear as the bar door opened. Heads turned. Sam and Dean stood there, bags slung over their shoulders.

Dean spotted Jo within seconds of entering the bar. She was in the corner with some kid, his hand touching her face, and Dean’s eyes narrowed. Sam caught Ellen’s eye and waved. She grinned and made her way around the counter. Sam met her half way and she pulled him into a hug.

“It’s about time you boys made your way back here. I was startin to get worried. What’d I tell you two about checkin in?”

Sam gave her a sheepish look.

“Sorry Ellen, things got a little hectic.”

“Mmm.”

Sam nudged Dean who turned to face them with irritation on his face.

“What?”

He looked startled to see Ellen in front of them.

“Oh, hey Ellen.”

“Hey sweetie, you got bags. Stayin for a few days?”

“Mmm uh yeah.”

Dean shoved the bag at Sam. It knocked into his gut making him grunt.

“Here Sammy take my bag. I’m gonna go say hi to Rufus and Jo.”

They watched as Dean walked over to the table and Sam sighed.

“This isn’t gonna end well.”

“He’s payin for anything he ruins in this bar.”

Sam nodded.

“Noted.”

Jo was smiling when she felt a shift in the atmosphere around her. The noise lessened and she craned her neck to the side. Her heartbeat sped up, and her body tingled as Dean walked toward her smirk on his face.

Relief thrummed through her body as she gave him a once over. He was alive and kicking. Stupid bastard should have called more, but she refused to let it get to her. She returned his smirk.

“Hey there Deano, long time no see.”

He inclined his head in greeting.

“Had a few jobs in between the one Sammy and I left for.”

Dean looked away from her and at Rufus and Eddie. Friends of his father’s back in the day.

“Rufus, Eddie, haven’t seen you in a while. How you doin sir?”

Eddie shook Dean’s hand and nodded.

“Can’t complain. Still alive. Dean this here’s my son Tommy.”

Dean’s eyes shifted to Tommy. He couldn’t be any older than Sam or Jo, maybe a year, but no more. Dean held out his hand. Tommy glanced at it, straightened up, and took it. He winced slightly at Dean’s grip.

“Nice to meetcha Tommy I’m Dean, but I’m sure you already knew that.”

“Yeah, nice meeting you too.”

Ellen called out to Jo and she turned.

“Before you head out, come back here and give me a hand.”

Jo sighed and nodded before turning towards Tommy.

“Gimmie ten minutes.”

She was about to pass Dean when she stopped and face him.

“You just passing through?”

Dean shrugged.

“We don’t have a hunt. Thought we’d stay a few days.”

“So I’ll see you later?”

Dean nodded.

“You know where I’ll be.”

Her lip turned up in a smile as she walked away. When she was out of sight Dean faced Tommy.

“So you takin Jo somewhere?”

Tommy glared at the taller hunter. He’d heard about the Winchesters and their tempers, but he wasn’t about to let this clown intimidate him. He crossed his arms over his chest.

“Yeah, I am. What of it?”

Rufus and Eddie shook their heads and a few of the other patrons chuckled. Sam made his way towards the table and spoke to his brother.

“Dean, why don’t we just go get settled in.”

Dean ignored him and kept his focus on the boy.

“If you’re lookin’ to score you should go somewhere else cause it’s not gonna happen.”

Tommy’s fists clenched as he took a step towards Dean. His father spoke in a warning tone.

“Tommy don’t…”

“Shut up Dad.”

Dean shook his head.

“What’s the world coming to when son’s don’t respect their Father’s anymore? Listen kid…back off. The Jo thing isn’t gonna happen.”

Tommy smirked, raised an eyebrow, and took a step closer to Dean.

“Oh yeah…why’s that? Jo is a grown woman. She can make her own decision’s beside she never mentioned having a boyfriend while she was flirting with me earlier.”

Dean counted to ten and he still wanted to kick this kid in the face, but then Jo would be pissed at him and that would get him nowhere. So he buried his anger and waited for the perfect moment. Several eyes were on them as Dean spoke in a quiet, but dangerous voice.

“We all flirt kid. It’s fun to pass the time, but make no mistake, she’s mine…”

Dean saw Jo out of the corner of his eye and he grinned.

“Jo needs a real man, not a pipsqueak like you.”

That was enough to have Tommy rearing back and slamming a fist into Dean’s face hard. Dean didn’t block it, just let it come. Several hunters stood up, Eddie grabbed his son, and Ellen shook her head as Jo came running over.

“What the hell is going on here?”

Dean held his nose and frowned at Jo as he pointed to Tommy.

“Dude, you really need to check your friends at the door sweetheart. I’m talking to him and the next minute he’s telling me to stay away from you before slamming his fist into my face.”

Jo glared at Dean.

“I’m sure that’s what happened.”

“You think I’m lying?”

“Of course I do.”

She glanced around at Rufus, Eddie, and several other hunters with smirks on their faces.

“Is that what happened?”

Tommy glared at them.

“No, he…told me your were his…to stay away from you.”

Jo raised an eyebrow at Dean and he gave her a confused look. She sighed and glared at Tommy.

“I would have believed you if you hadn’t tacked on the whole he said you were his thing. I’ve know Dean going on three years now. He’d never say anything like that.”

She shook her head and cupped Dean’s check checking out the bruise forming.

“Come on, let’s get you some ice.”

He wound an arm around her waist as she put a hand against his stomach. As they walked towards the back room, Dean turned his head briefly to the table of hunters and smirked. He used the hand that was on his face to point at Jo while she wasn’t looking and mouthed ‘mine.’

Yeah, so he let some kid sucker punch him, but it was worth the hit. Tommy would spend his night spanking the monkey and Dean…well Dean was gonna get him some Jo lovin.
