Chapter 1
Back On The Road Again…

(13 Weeks)

California

The sun shone through the windows of the Impala as “Back on the Road Again” by REO Speedwagon blared softly through the speakers. Jo sat in the driver’s seat one arm over the wheel, hair flowing over her shoulders and blowing in the breeze from the open window.

She wore a pair of black yoga pants and a white tank top. Last night she had fallen asleep in the passenger seat and when she woke up Sam was driving and Dean was out cold in the backseat. While Dean slept they talked and played a few silly road games to pass the time.

When Sam started yawing, Jo had told him to pull over. When he said he was fine she explained she wouldn’t be staking her life and the life of her child on the fact that he was fine…and that’s how Jo had ended up in her current position behind the wheel.

She grinned and sang along softly with the music.

“I’m back on the road again…it’s time I leave you noow…maybe I’ll see you next time…that I’m around…”

Sam smiled as he watched Jo bob her head in time with the music. He rubbed his eyes and pulled himself up right in his seat. Jo must have noticed the movement out of the corner of her eye because she turned to look at him briefly.

“Morning sleeping beauty. Have a nice nap?”

Sam chuckled and she grinned.

“Actually, I did. I’m kind of surprised Dean’s still asleep though.”

Sam turned in his seat and glanced at Dean who was still out cold, snoring slightly. Jo slapped Sam lightly and he moved back into his seat.

“Leave him be, he hasn’t been sleepin’ well.”

Jo continued singing to the music and Sam watched her with a warm smile on his face. He wasn’t exactly sure what happened back at that hotel they stayed at after helping Molly McNamara, but he did know whatever Dean said or did, helped.

Things between Jo and Dean had been a lot less tense lately and Sam could see the fun loving, carefree, woman that he missed from the first time he and Dean met Jo, coming back out again. It was nice. It also made driving in a confined space with them a lot more bearable.

Sam took a minute to glance down at Jo’s growing stomach. There was definitely a small pot-belly sized bump under Jo’s form fitting tank top. She must have felt his eyes on her because she glanced at him and then where he was looking and sighed.

“Take a picture, it lasts longer.”

Sam’s head jerked up to Jo’s face and he felt himself blush.

“Sorry…I was just…I mean…”

He fumbled with his words and Jo laughed lightly.

“It’s fine…I know I look like a whale.”

Sam frowned.

“You do not. You’re beautiful Jo…besides Dean doesn’t seem to have any problems with the way you look.”

Sam glanced out the window as he spoke and watched the scenery go by. Jo smirked and her voice held amusement in it.

“Yeah, that’s because he likes the increase in cup size.”

Sam shook his head. He really didn’t want to hear about Dean and Jo’s sexual adventures. The past two motels they stayed at Dean and Jo had gotten their own room next to his, but they might as well have stayed with him for all the good the thin ass walls did to keep out the noises.

“My brother’s a pig.”

Jo rolled her eyes and looked over at Sam as he peered out the window. He seemed less stressed lately, which was good. It’s probably due to the fact that he doesn’t have to hear her and Dean fighting all day long. Now they only fight about half the day.

Jo opened her mouth but before she could say anything Sam’s phone rang. He went through his pockets until he found it. He lifted it to his ear and answered it.

“Hello.”

“Hey Sam, how you doin sweetheart?”

Sam smiled and Jo raised an eyebrow at him.

“Hey Ellen, I’m good how are you?”

“I’m doin alright. Just checkin’ in on you three. I haven’t heard from any of you in about a week or so. What did I tell you three about that?”

Sam looked over at Jo and frowned.

“I thought you said you were going to call your mom.”

She nodded.

“I was, but then I must have forgotten.”

Sam leaned his head back and spoke into the phone again.

“Sorry Ellen we won’t let it happen again. You wanna talk to Jo? She’s sitting right here next to me.”

“Sure sweetie.”

Sam passed the phone to Jo and she took it as she rolled her eyes.

“Hey mom, sorry I forgot to call. How’s everything going?”

“Decent. Bobby’s in town, working on a job. He says hello.”

“Tell him I say hi.”

Sam watched as Jo talked to Ellen for about fifteen minutes before hanging up and handing the phone back to him. Jo was just pulling off the exit when Dean groaned from the backseat. He rubbed a hand across his face before slowly opening his eyes.

It was bright and his back was killing him. He had no clue how Jo slept back here all the time. It was so freakin’ uncomfortable. Dean winced as he sat up. When his eyes adjusted what he saw made his eyes go wide. He glanced at Jo in the driver’s seat and Sam in the passenger seat. He was speechless for more than a minute before his voice boomed through the car startling Jo and Sam.

“What the hell is going on?!”
