Chapter 10
The Roadhouse
(16-Weeks)

Sam sighed for the hundredth time as he pushed open the door and got out of the Impala.

“Dean I told you Maddie called back while I was driving. She said Jo’s fine and they have a surprise for you.”

Dean slammed his door shut and grunted.

“That’s what I’m worried about Sammy. What kind of surprise? Christ if I go in there and they tell me Jo’s having twins or some bullshit like that we’re high tailing it to Canada…”

Sam chuckled as they walked into the bar. Madison looked up at the strip of sunshine that made its way into the bar when the door opened. She grinned when she saw them. Sam spotted her and nodded. She ran over and he laughed as she leaped on to him.

He caught her, one arm around her back the other on her ass. As she wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a long kiss. Dean made a disgruntled noise as he walked around them.

“Get a room.”

When the kiss ended Madison glared at the back of Dean’s head.

“We have one.”

Dean didn’t even turn around when he answered.

“Great…go use it.”

Sam sighed.

“We just got back. Are you two gonna start already?”

Ellen made her way into the room with salt in one hand and napkins in the other. She raised an eyebrow at Dean and he smiled.

“You’re in trouble.”

The smile faded.

“I haven’t been here in days. How am I in trouble?”

Sam patted Madison’s ass lightly as he let her down and she punched him in the arm. Sam yelped slightly, startled by the hit. Dean and Ellen turned in their direction as Sam rubbed his arm and glared at Madison.

“You’ve been hanging out with Jo too much. Why’d you hit me?”

“I forgot I was mad at you.”

Sam frowned.

“What’d I do?”

Sam looked at Dean and he shrugged.

“Don’t look at me I got no clue.”

Ellen shook her head.

“Mmm…we saw you two on the news. You could have mentioned you were planning on going to jail. You nearly gave us a heart attack.”

Dean gave Ellen a sheepish look as he rubbed the back of his neck.

“Jo saw?”

Ellen nodded and Dean groaned. Great he was gonna get chewed out. Lovely. He loved coming back to Jo screaming at him. He was about to say something when the object of his thoughts came out from the back in black stretch pants and a tight white t-shirt.

He pursed his lips together as she smiled at him.

“Hey baby.”

Dean raised an eyebrow.

“Uh…hey Jo.”

When she was in front of him she leaned in and gave him a hard kiss. He kissed her back until the kiss got slightly rough and he pulled away. She gave him a sexy smirk and he frowned.

“What’s the matter? Didn’t you miss me Deano?”

He watched her closely and he couldn’t put his finger on it, but something was off with her. He cleared his throat and scratched the back of his neck. She knew he didn’t like the whole big welcome home thing, especially not in front of everyone. She was putting him on the spot and that wasn’t like her.

“’Course I did.”

“Then kiss me.”

“Jo…”

His voice trailed off when her hands curled into his jacket tightly and her body pressed against his.

“Do it.”

Ellen made a face as she looked over to Sam and Madison who were also looking at Jo with a strange look on their faces.

“Honey why don’t you tell Dean what you found out.”

Jo didn’t turn in Ellen’s direction, but she spoke in a singsong voice.

“Why don’t you shut up.”

Dean pushed her hands off him as he took a step away from her. She pouted, but he could see amusement in her eyes.

“Aww come on Deano. Don’t be like that. I’ve been waiting for you two to get back.”

Dean felt like he’d been sucker punched as he studied Jo’s demeanor. Her eyes were dancing with mirth and a spark of something sinister. He needed to keep it together, but he wasn’t positive how when he felt like he couldn’t breathe.

His face hardened and he clenched his fists.

“You’re. Not. Jo.”

The three people in the room looked at Dean startled and Jo just let out a loud laugh.

“Oh Dean…I don’t give you enough credit do I? I should have realized that you of all people would figure it out. She’s relieved you know? I can feel her kicking around in the back of my head, thanking all things holy that you knew it wasn’t her.”

She shrugged.

“Too bad though…I had a little fun planned. Oh well.”

In that moment Dean watched as things happened almost too fast. Sam went to push Madison out the door when it slammed shut windows following shortly after. Ellen picked up the salt and went to toss it when Dean’s eyes widened and he screamed stopping everyone in their tracks.

“STOP!!!”

Jo stood there knife in hand pointing it directly over her stomach eyebrow raised. Dean froze as he looked at the sharp tip hard against Jo’s protruding belly. Ellen put down the salt and Sam stood in front of Madison. Jo’s face grinned and it killed him to see that look there.

“Meg…”

She chuckled.

“In the flesh…well technically not my flesh, but does it matter? One wrong move and your kids toast. Along with your blonde bitch.”

Dean held up a hand.

“What do you want?”

She opened her mouth and then turned, eyes blackened to face Ellen who was in the process of bringing her hand up. She waved a hand and Ellen flew against the wall. She then pinned Sam and Madison up next to her.

“No surprises…I’m not crazy about them.”

She glanced back at Dean who was trying his damndest to control his anger.

“What do I want? Did you just ask me what I wanted? Dean…you killed me. What do you think I want?”

Right as she finished the sentence she pulled her fist back and slammed it into his face. He stumbled back and blocked the next series of hits without returning any. She kicked him and he landed on the ground with a grunt as she laughed.

She turned away from him and before Dean knew it he was pinned against the wall next to Sam as Meg turned around and faced Ellen and Madison. She grinned.

“I’m Meg by the way, nice to meet you. So tell me ladies… Do either of you know how Jo came to be on the road with the infamous Winchester brothers? No? Who wants a little history lesson?”

Sam’s face paled as Meg continued.

“This isn’t the first time I’ve taken a ride in someone else’s skin. As a matter of fact not long ago I took up residence inside the younger Winchester.”

She glanced at Sam and winked before looking at Madison.

“Tasty isn’t he?”

Meg’s hand slid down Jo’s arm with the knife.

“Sam and I took a little trip to Duluth to visit Jo and boy did we visit.”

Dean watched as Jo bit her lip, ran a hand over her body, and a look of pleasure crossed her face. His voice was cold as ice when he spoke.

“Get you filthy hands off her you dirty bitch.”

Meg turned towards Dean and amusement filled her face. This is what she wanted. She wanted to humiliate them. To make him squirm, and it was working.

“Awww what’s the matter Deano? You don’t like thinking about Duluth do you. How you were too late to save her? Don’t like picturing your baby brother’s fingers deep inside Jo’s body making her come? She loved it you know…little slut.”

“You’re a fucking liar.”

Surprisingly that statement didn’t come from Dean. She turned towards Madison and sniffed the air while raising an eyebrow.

“Hmm I heard Sammy had a pet werewolf. What’s the matter sweetheart don’t believe me? Why don’t you ask your boyfriend then.”

Madison turned her eyes on Sam and he looked away from her. She let out a shocked gasp as tears pooled in her eyes. Ellen stood stoic not letting a single emotion pass through her features.

She knew from the start something was wrong when they came back. She just hadn’t known it was this bad. Meg giggled in Jo’s girlish voice and it made Dean sick.

He wasn’t used to being helpless, not being able to do anything. He couldn’t help Jo, he couldn’t make Meg shut the hell up, and he couldn’t block out the pain that filled him at Meg’s words.

“That’s right little Sammy had his dirty way with Jo…right against the counter until Dean had to come and ruin our fun.”

Meg made her way over to Sam and ran her hands over his body. Sam winced, turned away from her, and Dean struggled hard against whatever magic was holding him stationary. A tear ran down Madison’s cheek and Ellen turned away in disgust, no longer being able to keep the neutral mask in place.

Meg leaned in and placed a searing kiss against Sam’s mouth. He tried to pull away, but she held his face in place as she thrust her tongue into his mouth. Dean was furious. His body moved back and forth as he used all of his energy to try and pull away from the wall.

“When I get out of this you’re gonna wish you were dead.”

Meg turned her head and smiled at Dean before shrugging.

“Maybe…but by the time you get out of this…you won’t want to be alive anyway…it’s just one more thing for you to fail at Dean…this is your fault. Had you never started things up with Jo and told Sam…I would have never went after her. I most likely would have went after Bobby. Tell me…how does it feel to destroy everything you touch.”

So many emotions flew through Dean at once and the thought that this was his fault…hurt more than any of them. He’d always said things like that, but no one had ever said it about him before and she was right. He got Jo into this. He went and helped out on that job and this whole thing started there.

Water formed in his eyes and Meg gave him a menacing smile. Her voice was calm and low, but everyone heard it.

“I’m going to make you watch as the woman you love fucks your brother…and then I’m going to stab her in the heart and let you watch as she and your baby die. Does that sound like fun Dean? Cause it sure as hell sounds fun to me.”

Meg rubbed Jo’s body up against Sam who was trying to focus on anything but the writhing blonde in front of him. Her voice was husky as she spoke.

“Oh come on Sammy…you know when you saw Jo naked and wet on top of Dean last week, riding him with abandon you wanted to be the one she was riding, squeezing her muscles around.”

She slid her hand down and Sam looked at her and glared his voice hard.

“You’re wrong.”

“Am I?”

“Yes.”

She chuckled.

“I don’t think so. There’s always been a part of you that wanted Jo, but you knew how Dean felt about her so you left it alone. But lately that part of you has been growing stronger. Don’t fight it…she wants you too.”

He turned his head away when her lips tried to close over them. Dean saw movement out of the corner of his eye. He caught sight of Ash who held a finger to his mouth. Dean looked back at Meg and watched as Jo’s body released one of Sam’s hands enough that she could pull it to her breast.

He made a face and as she opened her mouth to say something Ash hefted a large bottle of holy water on her and Meg screamed. The minute the water hit her, she felt her control over the situation loosen. Madison, Ellen, Dean, and Sam hit the ground at the same time.

Meg lifted the knife and right before she was about to slam it into Jo’s body a rough hand grabbed her arm. She turned and she could feel the furry coming off Dean in waves.

“I don’t’ think so bitch.”

Ash grabbed hold of her other arm as Ellen ran and got the salt. Meg struggled as they held her. Ellen ran back over and spread the salt around the three of them locking them into the circle. Dean was able to wrestle the knife out of her hand and toss it to the ground.

“What the hell are you waiting for? Exercise her Sam…NOW.”

Sam looked at Meg, but all he could see was Jo flailing about and he closed his eyes a second to focus before he opened them and started reciting the exorcism ritual from memory.

“Deus, in nómine tuo salvum me fac, et virtúte tua age causam meam. Deus, audi oratiónem meam; áuribus pércipe verba oris mei. Nam supérbi insurréxunt contra me, et violénti quasiérunt vitam meam; non proposuérunt Deum ante óculos suos."

The screaming stopped before he could finish as Jo’s head jerked back and a cloud of black smoke tore from her throat and crashed through the window. Her body went limp and she slipped to the ground Dean by her side. Ash had moved out of the way before the ritual had been performed.

Ellen was still holding onto Madison’s arm from when she tried to break the circle and get to Jo. Sam moved forward to help him with an unconscious Jo, but Dean glanced up and the look on his face was bitter when he addressed Sam.

“Back off Sam”

“Dean…”

“I’m serious. Get the hell away from Jo. Now. Don’t make me tell you again.”

Sam swallowed hard at the look on Dean’s face. He’d seen that look before. Just never directed at him. Dean lifted Jo in his arms and winced as he stood slowly. He looked up and Ellen was watching them. He opened his mouth, but she shook her head.

Sam turned and the look of disappointment on Ellen’s face made him feel ten times worse than he already did. She stood in front of the boys and words failed her. Dean cleared his throat.

“Ellen, I’m sorry.”

She shook her head.

“I’m disappointed in all three of you. I know what happened ain’t your fault, but lying about it, keeping it from me it just ain’t right. All these secrets, the lies, all they do is tear people apart. If you were more honest with each other, yourselves, and us this wouldn’t have been half as bad. No…I don’t want to hear it right now. Is Jo alright?”

Dean glanced at Jo and sighed.

“She will be.”

Ellen nodded.

“I’m going to bed.”

She turned her back on the four of them and they watched her disappear before hearing a door slam shut. Dean headed toward Jo’s room without looking back at Madison and Sam. He stopped in front of Ash and nodded at him. His voice was emotional when he spoke.

“Thanks.”

Ash just nodded as Dean disappeared into the back. Ash glanced between Madison and Sam before whistling lightly.

“Well Dr. Badass has some stuff to do. You two have a good night you hear?”

He left, leaving Sam and Madison alone. He wasn’t sure what to say. He hadn’t told Madison about either incident and now that she knew he wasn’t sure how she was going to take it. She stood there hands crossed over her chest watching him. When he didn’t say anything she broke the silence.

“I want to know what’s going on Sam. Everything.”

He let out a long breath and plopped into one of the booths. If she wanted everything he’d give her everything and if she stuck around when he was finished then he’d know if this was for real, if she could deal with this life and with him…

********

Dean had just finished throwing some of Jo’s clothes in her duffle bag when he heard a groan coming from the bed. He was by her side before she had a chance to open her eyes. Dean reached out his hand and brushed a piece of hair off her face.

Jo’s eyes fluttered open and she frowned when she saw Dean leaning over her, concern etched onto is face. She scrunched up her nose.

“Hey.”
He smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes.

“Hey, how are you feeling?”

She sat up and winced. He helped her so she was leaning against the headboard.

“Fine I think. When’d you get back?”

He frowned.

“You don’t remember what happened?”

Jo’s brow creased as she thought back to earlier in the day. The last thing she coherently remembered was tumbling into bed because she was sick. Dean knew the minute the memories came crashing back. Jo looked like she’d been sucker punched.

Tears filled her eyes and he leaned in as she grasped on to him. He held her and stroked her back lightly as she cried against him. His body was tense and he wasn’t sure what to say or do. Jo wasn’t typically a crier, but with everything that happened he couldn’t fault her for needing a little release.

When her sobs subsided and he felt her pulling away he released his grip. She wiped her tears as she glanced at his bruises and cuts.

“I’m so, sorry.”

Dean shrugged.

“Not a big deal. I’m fine.”

Jo glanced at his bag and he could see panic taking over as her eyes widened.

“You’re leaving?”

He shook his head.

“We’re leaving. We’re gonna stay with Bobby for a bit.”

She relaxed and nodded.

“Where’s the necklace Bobby gave you Jo?”

She frowned.

“It came off the other night when I was sick. I didn’t feel well enough to pick it up though so I just went to sleep.”

Dean held his lips in a tight line. The room was quiet and he hesitated before speaking.

“Jo are you sure nothing else happened in Duluth?”

“I would have told you.”

“If it…”

She cut him off.

“It didn’t. I don’t want to talk about this.”

“We’re gonna have to talk about it sometime.”

She shook her head.

“Not now. Can you just come hold me. I know I sound like one of them stupid girls right now, but
I really just need to know you’re here Dean. Can you do that?”

He could see the pain on her face. The anger, confusion and humiliation. He hated seeing her like that; torn up inside. Looking broken. It was the same look he saw on her face back in Duluth and when he saw it then he promised himself he’d never let that look be on her face again.

He’d failed. Dean climbed onto the bed and pulled Jo into his arms as he they laid down. She held onto him and he swallowed hard. He almost lost her again tonight, but this was worse than before. He had thought this whole thing was over with.

That he’d gotten over what Meg did while in Sam’s body, but the truth was he’d never really dealt with it. Dean had just pushed it to the back of his head and figured if Jo and Sam could move past it so could he. The conflicting emotions he felt toward his brother right now made everything that much worse.

Dean didn’t know whether to hug Sam or punch him in the face. He glanced at Jo and cleared his throat before speaking softly.

“Your mom said you had something important to tell me. A surprise?”

Jo turned her head so she could look at him and he saw a ghost of a smile grace her features.
“When the doctor was here he told me the sex of the baby. We’re having a girl Dean…a baby girl.”

Dean opened his mouth, but nothing came out. A daughter. He was going to have a daughter. Jo raised an eyebrow and Dean leaned in, cupped her cheek and captured her lips with his. He melded them together, bit her bottom lip gently as he deepened this kiss.

Jo placed her hand on his wrist holding on as he fused their lips together. When they finally broke apart Jo was breathless and Dean mated their foreheads together. She could see the red around his eyes and she caressed his cheek with her hand.

“God Jo we’ve having a girl.”

This time the smile made it to her eyes as she heard the wonder in his voice.

“Yup. Looks like your gonna be outnumbered by us Harvelle women.”

He nodded and looked into her eyes. The atmosphere in the room changed and Jo watched as Dean’s adams apple bobbed hard. He opened his mouth and let out a heavy breath.

“Jo I just want you to know, I mean I lo…”

Jo placed a finger over his lips and Dean frowned.

“Don’t…it’s been a really long few hours Dean and emotions are still running high. I don’t want you saying that unless you mean it. You were scared. You thought you lost us, but we’re right here. Everythin’s going to be okay.”

Dean closed his eyes, nodded, looked up, and met Jo’s eyes with a small smile.

“And how do you know everything’s gonna be okay hmm?”

She smiled lightly as he pulled her against his chest and they settled down into the bed.

“Because I’m here with you…”
